Hurricane Hauling Honored with Sustainable 6 Award
San Rafael Firm Demonstrates Green Hauling Practices

San Rafael, CA- Assemblymember Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) announced his monthly Sustainable 6 award to Hurricane Hauling of San Rafael for their outstanding business practices that demonstrate the highest standards of sustainable waste and debris recycling and removal. “Hurricane Hauling is a true leader in incorporating green practices in their everyday operations,” said Huffman. “The methods of recycling and using alternative fuels illustrates why they are a model for sustainable business practices throughout the North Bay. ”

Hurricane Hauling & Demolition believes that a successful business is dependent on a healthy environment. They demonstrate environmental responsibility by committing to the following objectives:
· Comply with all applicable environmental regulations
· Conserve natural resources
· Practice pollution prevention
· Be environmentally responsible

Hurricane Hauling has also started using processed recycled vegetable oil as a fuel in all their diesel engines. Used oil is retrieved from restaurants throughout the Bay Area and processed with lye and methyl alcohol to reduce viscosity. This process produces glycerin as a byproduct, which again is reused. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, pure biodiesel emits 67 percent fewer unburned hydrocarbons, 48 percent less carbon monoxide and 47 percent fewer particulates.

The Sustainable 6 award recognizes green businesses in the 6th Assembly District that incorporate sustainable practices in the way they operate. A certificate was awarded to the Hurricane Hauling on Wednesday, September 19th.
